The Shortest Month Caused Large Problems

Preston got off to a flier at the start of the month with an important awat victory at Hillsborough which saw Preston employ three strikers for the first time under Paul Simpson.

Preston then returned to Deepdale and were out gunned by Wolves who put in a solid performance to take away all three points from Preston and close the gap on the play off places.

Preston then ended the month with three games in seven days. The first live on television against Manchester City in the FA Cup saw Preston put in a solid first half performance but allowing City time and space saw Preston unduly punished.

Preston returned to the league and managed to edge out Norwich at home with a much needed win although the second half was jittery.

This was followed up by a tired display in tv against Cardiff. Preston were sloppy in parts and the scoreline may not have put a true reflection on the game but Preston now have to rectify things if they wish to move forward.

Ironically Preston sit closer to the top in terms of points than they did at the start of the month yet picked up only two wins. The month saw Mellor, Soley and Pergl all feature with Ricketts looking sharp.

Simpson will need to use his squad over the remaining dozen games if Preston are to stand a chance amongst the many other sides fighting for the top. Nothing is clear cut at the moment but with a big month for all clubs ahead Preston must now put behind them a poor February if they want to be in the shake up come May.
