Stephen Martin is in his fouth year as a football league referee after coming from the Blue Square Premier.  His first football league match came whilst he was a non-league referee with a 1-1 draw between Morecambe and Cheltenham on 5 February 2011.

His first match in 2012/13 was a 1-0 win for Gillingham at Wycombe on 12 August 2012 this was is only match he produced a red card in this season when the Gills were reduced to ten men.

Last season saw him produce all 5 red cards in 2 matches, 2 in the FA Cup match at Havant & Waterlooville and 3 in Millwall’s win over Wigan

His last Watford match was a 3-2 home defeat to Norwich on 24 September 2013. His last match was the 1-1 draw between Derby & Middlesbrough on 18 August.
