Preston North End Vs Barnsley  Match Preview

Npower Championship Tuesday 9th November

Venue: Deepdale, Preston.

Kick Off: 7:45PM

Referee: Oliver Langford (Click here for referee statistics)

A well earned point on their travels at the weekend sets North End up nicely for the visit of Barnsley on Tuesday night.

The Tykes visit Deepdale on the back of the home defeat to Leicester at the weekend which condemned Mark Robins’ side to a run of 4 games without victory.

Both teams are enduring a patchy run of form having only one win each in their last six matches.

A win for North End might just steer Darren Ferguson’s side away from the drop zone and, given that just two points separate the two teams, leapfrog Barnsley. A defeat for the Tykes would drag the Yorkshire side back into the mire at the wrong end of the table.

Last season’s visit of the Tykes was a game that North End fans would rather forget.

A lacklustre performance resulted in an embarrassing defeat for Darren Ferguson’s team who fell to a 4-1 defeat.

Anderson De Silva put the visitors ahead after just 8 minutes before Danny Welbeck equalised for North End just shy of the hour mark.

North End weren’t on level terms for long, however, as Michael Hart put one past Lonergan into his own net just before the break to make it 2-1.

Andy Gray, the former Burnley striker, made it 3 on 69 before a current Burnley player, the on-loan Jay Rodriquez made it 4 in the 90th minute.

The result and performance was a stark contrast from the reverse fixture last season.

North End cruised to a 3-0 win at Oakwell thanks to goals from Paul Parry, Neil Mellor and Jon Parkin.

Team News

North End will be down to just one senior striker as Iain Hume will not be able to feature against his parent club.

In the same vein, Paul Hayes will also be sidelined.

One man who will be available for the Tykes is loanee Garry O’Connor. The Birmingham striker spent a month on loan at Oakwell earlier in the season and has rejoined in time to travel to Deepdale tomorrow night.
