After seeing off the challenge of Huddersfield in the last round North End welcome the visit of last year's League Cup semi-finalists Crystal Palace to Deepdale for Tuesday's Capital One Cup 2nd round tie.

As the Lilywhites' campaign started with a win against Championship opposition in the League Cup  Graham Westley's men will be looking for a repeat of such fortunes and, subsequently, displace a club further up the football ladder than themselves.

Palace make the trip to Deepdale on the back of three straight defeats having lost to Middlesbrough at the weekend as well as Watford and Bristol City in their first and second league games respectively.

The Eagles have made it past the 2nd round just twice in the last seven years.

North End, on the other hand, have made it to the 3rd round for the last three consecutive seasons.

Palace's last visit to Deepdale was October 23rd 2010 when the two sides contested a seven goal thriller.

Jon Parkin put North End ahead on 13 minutes before Owen Garvan levelled for the visitors just seven minutes later.

The Beast sealed his brace on 25 minutes then Keith Treacy gave the Lilywhites a two goal cushion on 36.

A Callum Davidson spot kick looked to have the game wrapped up but an instant response through Andy Dorman sparked a mini Palace revival which saw Preston-born James Vaughan narrow the margin to just one goal through a penalty of his own with just 10 minutes remaining.

However, the former Sherwood County Primary School pupil's strike wasn't enough to salvage a point.

The return fixture, however, saw the Eagles get their talons on all three points thanks to a header from Steffan Iversen just shy of the hour mark.

In total there have been 44 meetings between these two sides with Palace having the edge with 18 wins as opposed to North Ends 14.

However, in cup competitions North End have the advantage with two FA Cup wins and one draw over Palace's solirary League Cup win over North End back in 1968.

Team News

David Buchanan is likely to deputise for the injured Lee Holmes who went off injured during Preston's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.

Akpo Sodje will be looking to make his first start having bagging the equaliser in the aforementioned draw but skipper John Mousinho and his former Stevenage teammate Joel Byrom are both ruled out.

For the visitors, Glen Murray is a doubt after picking up a knock in the win over Exeter in the previous round as is Jermaine Easter.
