Scunthorpe United Vs Preston North End

Coca-Cola Championship Tuesday 15th September 2009

Having emerged from the international break with a victory over Swansea, North End's unbeaten run continues leaving the Lilywhites in a lofty 4th place. The 2-0 win over Paulo Sousa's men did much to eradicate the 2-0 defeat at Deepdale just over a year ago whilst ensuring that confidence remained sky-high in the Lilywhites' camp heading into a busy period of fixtures - 5 games in 14 days.

North End's opponents this Tuesday are newly promoted Scunthorpe United. The Iron, though, have been true to their name having eased past Crystal Palace on Saturday with an emphatic 4-0 win.

Previous Meetings

North End's last trip to Glanford Park came during the Paul Simpson era during the 2007/2008 season. A 2-1 defeat in Lincolnshire meant that North End made the 113 mile trip back to the Red Rose County without even a point for their endeavours.

Andy Crosby gave the home side the lead after 24 minutes before Youl Mawene equalised just before the interval. Hayes made it two just after the restart before Andy Carroll was dismissed to round off a bad afternoon for the Lilywhites after Kevin Nicholls saw his spot kick saved.

Scunthorpe completed the double of North End in the 2007/2008 season when the Iron recorded a 1-0 win at Deepdale in December 2007. Now Burnley striker Martin Paterson scored the only goal of the game on the 43rd minute.

North End did managed to muster some retribution, however, thanks to a 1-0 FA Cup win at Deepdale in front of a mere 4,616 spectators.

Overall North End have come up against Scunny on 27 occasions and have the edge in terms of wins with 13 over Scunthorpe's 11. However, when North End have been the visitors, they have only managed to record 4 wins and a draw.

Team News

Sean St Ledger confirmed via his twitter page that he has travelled to Scunthorpe despite ongoing rumours of a move to Middlesbrough. Thus, an unchanged team from Saturday is expected to feature at Glanford Park. That is if winger Paul Parry passes a late fitness test after he limped out of Saturday's game with a suspected hamstring problem, Chris Sedgwick could deputise.

Nigel Adkins is likely to unchanged his side from that that beat Palace.
