Hoping to return to winning ways following the defeat to Everton at the weekend, North End make the journey to North Wales to take on Dean Saunders’ Wrexham.

The Blue Square Premier side have endured an indifferent pre-season campaign thus far having drawn with a Liverpool XI, hammering Vauxhall Motors 4-0 whilst losing to the likes of Aberystwyth Town and AFC Sudbury.

Previous Meetings

Last year North End drew 1-1 with Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground in a similar pre-season preparation affair. Mansour Assoumani put the home side in front with a header after just five minutes played, a goal that proved to be enough to send the Welsh outfit in at the break with a slender lead.

The now exiled Richard Chaplow equalised for North End to ensure the Lilywhites’ unbeaten record throughout July remained intact.

Team News

For North End, skipper Callum Davidson may be in for a return after sitting out the defeat to Everton with a calf injury. The former Blackburn man was left out of the team on Saturday as a precaution.

Injury-ridden ‘keeper Wayne Henderson will also miss out thanks to the latest setback in his long standing back problem. It is believed that the former Irish international has been struggling with the physical aspect of pre-season.

Jon Parkin and Wayne Brown both remain a doubt.

For Wrexham, new ‘keeper Scott Shearer could make his debut as could striker David Brown following his move from Forest Green Rovers.
