Preston North End Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Coca-Cola Championship Tuesday 11th March 2008

Alan Irvine will be doing everything he can to prevent history repeating itself as the last time North End enjoyed two back to back away wins it was followed by a defeat at home. The home game in question though does happen to fall on a Tuesday night, where I will not have to remind you of the run Preston are enjoying in terms of Tuesday night home league games. After a magnificent win at the Valley and two great goals from January signing Chris Brown, confidence will be that little bit higher going into the game against Mick McCarthy's men. Confidence is one thing, but expecting a win is another, which seemed to be the case in Preston's last home game against Crystal Palace. Preston will hopefully learn from their mistakes this time round.

Wolves, who have only managed 8 points from 16 in recent weeks, still have it all to play for in terms of a play-off spot and will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to four games at Deepdale on Tuesday night. A win for Wolves could take them up to 8th, where as three points for North End would seem them jump up three places to 14th and put them on the same points as Norwich.

Previous Meetings

The reverse fixture this season saw Wolves take away all the points after a 1-0 win at Molineux. However the same fixture last season resulted in a 3-1 win for Paul Simpson's Preston after a brace from David Nugent and a wonderful solo effort from Simon Whaley.

In the game at Deepdale though last season, a goal after just 8 minutes was enough to see Wolves take all three points back to the midlands. A repeat of this on Tuesday will be the last thing Alan Irvine's Preston will want.

Team News

After rupturing his Achilles tendons in the warm up at the Valley, Liam Chilvers could face a lengthy period on the side lines. Billy Jones is expected to keep his place leaving the back four the same as that that started at Charlton on Saturday. Richard Chaplow is now available for selection after recovering from his hamstring injury
