Preston Search For Goals

Preston have only scored one league home goal in their first four matches at Deepdale and that has been the key concern for boss Paul Simpson. Three clean sheets have meant points on the board matched with one poor performance against Colchester.

Preston's early season form has been dogged with defensive errors and poor forward play. The errors are slowly being eradicated and it now seems that all attention is turning to the front line.

Preston cannot complain of a lack of options after Carroll, Gallagher, Agyemang, Mellor, Ormerod and Hawley have al played some part this season producing only two league goals between them.

Carroll faces the last game of his suspension whilst Ormerod seems to be frozen out at present. Agyemang appears to have lost favour after a short run in the team. Gallagher seems to be the only one guaranteed to start with Hawley playing well on Saturday likely to be given another chance against Southampton. Mellor will have to be satisfied with a place on the bench.

The keeper and back four who were relatively untroubled against Bristol City on Saturday are likely to remain the same as long as Mawene recovers from a knock which saw his early departure on Saturday. St Ledger is on standby.

The midfield is likely to be unchanged after two games Davidson appears to be bedding in well with Nicholls. Sedgewick should start on the right with Lewis Neal pushing Carter for a place on the left.

Southampton were one of the teams tipped for a finish in the top six and will prove difficult to beat this Tuesday. They maybe more adventurous than Bristol City so Preston will have to be on guard at the back whilst trying to plot something at the other end of the field.
