After making it four wins out of four in pre-season on Saturday against Tranmere, North End travel to Wales to take on Dean Saunders' Wrexham.

Wrexham themselves have come up against other Championship opposition already this summer having welcomed the visit of Coventry City. Wrexham managed to get a draw that afternoon and will be hoping of a similar result against the Lilywhites on Tuesday.

Previous Meetings

The last time North End met Wrexham in competitive action was back in the 1999/2000 season. North End recorded a 1-0 win over the Welsh outfit at Deepdale in March 2000 after a 0-0 draw at the Racecourse Ground on Boxing Day 1999 in their League encounters. In fact that season, North End came up against Wrexham no fewer than 5 times.

As well as the aforementioned two league games there was a two legged League Cup tie which Preston won 3-0 on aggregate; 2-0 win at the Racecourse and a 1-0 win at Deepdale. The other game took place at Deepdale on Tuesday 7th December 1999 and Preston won 4-1.

Former Birmingham defender Darren Carter will be hoping to step in and fill the hole in midfield left by the the departure of Paul McKenna in a bid to stake a claim for a regular starting place. Meanwhile, Callum Davidson could be in line to make his first appearance as permanent captain having taken over from McKenna. Trialist goalkeeper Nicky Weaver is set to play some part after being brought due to the recurrence of Wayne Henderson's back injury.

For Wrexham, midfielder Nathan Fairhurst is set to play against his old club for the first time.
