Carter's agent is set to meet with Phil Brown today of the midfielder's future at the club. It is thought that he has been offered a new deal but on reduced terms. His current contract expires next week.
Preston have a healthy amount of midfield players but it is thought that Russell will be on his way if a suitable offer comes in as his wages are too high whilst Adam Barton may well leave for a higher level of football during the summer.
