Busy Summer Ahead

It was already known that Izzy Brown and Josh Murphy had returned to their parent clubs. Brown did not feature for North End after an injury in pre-season and Murphy didn't fair much better.

Declan Rudd effectively retires from professional football after picking up an injury in the very first moments of the season and his problems were known about for some time.

Iversen, Van den Berg and Archer will return to their parent clubs after successful loans at Deepdale. The future for all of them is unknown at this point but Preston would surely take up an option on all three if offered.

There are a number of players out of contract who have been released from the club. The list is long and includes youngsters Ethan Walker, Jack Baxter, Jacob Holland-Wilkinson, Joe Rodwell-Grant, Mathew Hudson and Oliver Lombard.

Jamie Thomas who was signed at the start of the season but never played for the first team was also released alongside Connor Ripley, Joe Rafferty, Scott Sinclair and Tom Barkhuizen whose contracts all expired.

Paul Huntington has also left the club after he played the last few minutes as a substitute on Saturday although in reality he rarely featured throughout the season.

The club is in talks with Diaby. The centre back started on Saturday and has been at the club since January after his ban from the game came to an end.

There are just 20 professionals left on the books without Diaby. The club has stated they will listen to offers for Bayliss and Harrop who have been out on loan as well as Olosunde who was signed last summer and had a disastrous season with injuries.

The recruitment this summer needs to be better. There has been a big turnover in terms of playing personnel and many signed last year will not be here next.

Lowe needs to get his players in and quickly to allow for a good pre-season ahead of an early start to the season in July. Things need to move quickly but it is key that the right players are brought in.
