With Andy Lonergan set to finally leave the club, it now appears that trialist, Carroll, is in talks with the club over a permanent move on a free transfer to Deepdale.
Brown was always interested in bringing Iain Turner to Preston on a free transfer and probably would have done so had the proposed Lonergan move been completed a few weeks ago as planned.
Due to Lonergan still being on the books, Brown has had to take on trialists to play in pre-season including David Lucas and Roy Carroll. The latter has impressed Brown and it is understood from Carroll's solicitor that talks are ongoing about bringing the keeper tot the club.
