Championship Pre-Season Round-Up

Ahead of a gruelling 46 game Championship season managers like to test their sides in pre-season against all kinds of opposition to make sure they players are as prepared as possible. As a result, we shall be bringing you up-to-date with North End’s Championship rivals and seeing how they have fared so far.

Buxton 0-3 Barnsley
(Bogdanovic 7, 26; Odejayi 20)

We start with Barnsley who opened their pre-season campaign against Buxton in an assured fashion on Thursday evening. The Tykes had the game wrapped up within the first 30 minutes-or-so thanks to former Lokomotiv Sofia striker Daniel Bogdanovic’s brace and a strike from Odejayi . Buxton were unable to respond in the second-half which meant that the score remained 3-0.

Boreham Wood 0-4 Crystal Palace

(Unknown Trialist, Ertle, Djilali, Thomas)

Neil Warnock’s side made the trip to Boreham Wood to embark on their first game of the pre-season on Thursday night ahead for their tour of the USA. But despite the call for more strikers from the Selhurst Park faithful, Palace hammered Boreham Wood in emphatic fasion.  Goals from Ertle, Djilali, Thomas and an unknown trialist said to be known as ‘Maric’ completed the scoring for the Eagles who have fixtures against Crystal Palace USA and Harrisburg City Islanders in the coming week as part of the aforementioned trip to America.

On loan West Ham striker Sears was left out at Boreham Wood 

Armthorpe 2-3 Doncaster Rovers

(Holden 77, Walker 79) (Heffernan 34, Guy 69, Hayter (Pen 80)

Sean O’Driscoll’s Doncaster Rovers looked to be in total control in their first game of their warm-up match against Armthorpe. Paul Heffernan put the visitors ahead after 34 minutes with a close-range effort from a corner before Lewis Guy made it two on 69 minutes. Then, in two mad minutes, Armthorpe brought the game level to stun the Championship outfit only to see James Hayter seal the win from the penalty spot with 10 minutes to spare.
