Crystal Palace USA 2-5 Crystal Palace

(Teixeira 18, Seabrook 59) (Lee 12, Flores OG, 38, 90, Sears 53, N’Diaye 72)

On Tuesday, Neil Warnock’s Crystal Palace took on their Baltimore based counterparts. In a game which saw Freddy Sears make his debut, it only took 12 minutes for Palace UK to get off the mark. Striker Alan Lee rose above the Palace USA back four to head home, only to see an equaliser six minutes from Teixeira.

Palace UK took the lead again just before half-time via an own goal from Flores who left his goalkeeper exasperated by firing a clearance past him in the 38th minute. At half-time Neil Warnock stuck with the same team for the second period which seemed to pay off. Freddy Sears took just 8 minutes of the second-half to net his first goal in Palace colours to put daylight between the two sides. A goal from N’Diaye and another own goal from the hapless Flores completed the scoring.

Nigel Clough’s Derby County also managed to fire five past their pre-season opposition on Tuesday evening. Ben Pringle scored his first of two just shy of the half hour mark to make it 2-1.

Winterton Rangers 0-5 Scunthorpe United

Togwell, Hayes, Woolford, Forte (2)

Emphatic wins seemed to be a recurring theme for Championship clubs on Tuesday with Scunthorpe United getting in on the action with a 5-0 win over Winterton Rangers. Nigel Adkins’ side had to wait until the second-half for the pick of the goals with Forte bagging a brace and playoff final hero Martyn Woolford netting United’s third.

Sheffield FC 3-4 Sheffield United

(Woolley 24,  Eagers 45 pen, Roney 75 pen) (Gray 63, 78, Sharp 59, Ward 43)

The Blades visited neighbours Sheffield FC and had to have their wits about them to see off the non-league side. United went 1-0 down thanks to a miss-hit Woolley cross that caught trialist goalkeeper Haber off-guard before Jamie Ward equalised two minutes before the interval. On the stroke of half-time, Eagers put the non-leaugers ahead from the penalty spot to send them in at the break with the lead. Two goals in 4 minutes saw United back in front thanks to Julian Gray and Billy Sharp only to see Roney half the Blades’ lead on 75 minutes from the penalty spot. Julian Gray added his second 3 minutes later to seal a 4-3 win.
