Grimsby Town 0-3 Scunthorpe United

Hooper 19, Hayes 20, 66

Firstly, Scunthorpe United continued with their rampant pre-season form with another clean sheet and another three goals, this time against Grimsby Town. The Iron took the lead in the 19th minute through Gary Hooper who went all Kenny Loggins by getting himself into the ‘danger zone’ to prod home from a Martyn Woolford ball in.

United doubled their lead just a minute later with striker Paul Hayes getting himself in the thick of the action. After the Magpies had failed to clear, the ball landed straight to Hayes who capitalised on the error with a neat finish. Hayes then netted his second on 66 minutes to wrap up the scoring.

Livingston 2-1 Plymouth Argyle

(Timar og 25, McParland 49) (Summerfield pen 81)

Timar (right) scored at the wrong end for Argyle

Things weren’t quite so positive for Plymouth Argyle, though. Paul Sturrock’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat to Scottish side Livingston at the Almondvale Stadium. An own goal from Timar on 25 minutes gave the home side the lead to round off a disastrous start for the Plgrims but the score stayed the same going into the break. Livi Lions doubled their lead 4 minutes after the restart after McParland netted for the Scottish First Division side. Summerfield half their lead with a late penalty but it proved to be not enough for the Devonshire side.
