Coca-Cola Championship Round Up

Barnsley 2-0 Derby County

Despite seeing off Preston in midweek in the Carling Cup, Paul Jewell's Derby County fell to yet another league defeat, this time to Simon Davey's Barnsley. Davey was present in midweek to witness the aforementioned win over his former club and it seems he had the midlands club sussed.

Hulme but the Tykes ahead after 72 minutes before Foster sealed the points seven minutes from time. The result now means that Derby slip to the foot of the table having only picked up the one, solitary point. Barnsley are in 18th having recorded their first win of the season.

Bristol City 1-1 Queens Park Rangers

The scoring was complete inside the first 25 minutes at Ashton Gate with Dexter Blackstock putting the visitors ahead on 18 minutes. Dele Adebola equalised on 25 minutes for City to salvage a point. QPR are in 9th on 7 points with Bristol City are in 4th on 8.

Burnley 0-0 Plymouth Argyle

The only thing worth mentioning from the game at Turf Moor was that former Manchester United midfielder Chris Eagles was dismissed for the Clarets. Otherwise it was exactly what it said on the tin - a bore draw. Burnley are languishing in the bottom three on two points as are the Pilgrims on the same points but two places above.

Doncaster Rovers 1-0 Coventry City

Former Manchester United youngster Richie Wellens scored the only goal of the game at the Keepmoat. The Sky Blues may have felt the fatigue set in after taking Newcastle United to extra time in midweek however, nothing should be taken away from Doncaster who will be buoyed by an impressive win against a much fancied side.

Coventry occupy 13th on six points whilst Doncaster are in 10th on 7.

Norwich City 1-1 Birmingham City

Norwich held high fliers Birmingham City to a draw at Carrow Road on Saturday. Sebastian Larsson but the visitors ahead just before half time sending the midlands club 1-0 up at the break. Norwich came out all guns blazing and instantly hit back through Daryl Russell.

Norwich are in 19th having recorded three draws with Birmingham dropping to 3rd.

Preston North End 2-1 Charlton Athletic

Former Claret Andy Gray put the visitors ahead after 19 minutes after he converted from the penalty spot. Youl Mawene gave away a bizarre penalty after hacking down Luke Varney when there seemed to be not much of a threat. Neil Mellor pounced to equalise after half time with Barry Nicholson sealing the points after 68 minutes.

After Preston's unbeaten start, they find themselves in 2nd place on 10 points whereas Alan Pardew's Charlton are in 11th.

Reading 4-2 Crystal Palace

It is another disappointing result for Neil Warnock and his Crystal Palace side as Reading hit back with a 4-2 win of their own.  Kevin Harper put the Royals in front on 18 minutes before Palace found themselves ahead following goals from Nick Carle and Calvin Andrew. However a second half hat-trick from Kevin Doyle sealed the points for Reading who move up to 6th with Palace off the pace in 22nd on just two points.

Sheffield United 0-0 Cardiff City

A resolute Sheffield United defence proved to be too strong for the Blue Birds at Bramall Lane in this 0-0 draw.

The Blades are in 14th, Cardiff are 12th.

Southampton 0-1 Blackpool

A goal in first half stoppage time from Ben Burgess proved to be enough for the Seasiders at St Mary's. The score line could have been more than just the one with Blackpool having a couple of goals chalked off.

The Saint's find themselves in 20th on 3 points with Blackpool in 15th.

Swansea City 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Swansea continued with their strong start to the season having now notched up 7 points from their opening 4 games. Ferrie Bodde put the home side ahead after 36 minutes before veteran Steve Watson equalised after 70 minutes to see the points shared.

The point was enough to see Swansea move up to 7th place.

Watford 2-1 Ipswich Town

The Hornets recorded their second win of the season on Saturday having seen off Ipswich Town at Vicarage Road. Pablo Counago put the visitors ahead after just 2 minutes played having been unable to add to the Spaniard's goal, the game was delicately poised until John Eustace equalised after 59 minutes before John-Joe O'Toole got the winner with 12 minutes remaining.

Watford find themselves in place 8th whilst the Tractor Boys occupy 17th.

 Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-1 Nottingham Forest

Wolves brought Forest crashing back down to earth following their promotion to the Championship. Forest who held Premier League Sunderland until extra time in midweek, were hammered 5-1. David Jones got the ball rolling after 14 minutes with a brace from Kightly, a goal from Iwelumo and an own goal from Morgan completed the scoring for Wolves who are top of the Championship.
