Contradiction At Deepdale

Immeadiately after the sacking of boss Paul Simpson, the bookmakers were at the ready installing odds for the new manager of Preston.

Fans have called for Paul Jewell to be installed. Shaw, despite being a supporter of the club has said that Jewell would demand too high wages and would be looking for a bigger club than Preston to take on. No change from Derek then. Once again, the little man in the big seat lacking any motivation to even tempt the best man on the market to a club that if it really wanted, could go places.

Instead Preston are likely to go for the usual run of the mill manager who has never gone past this level, never been in the top six at this level and never really looked likely to even break into the top six at this level. Then again he will be cheap - just what the Deepdake board have always been after and will always attract until the mindest at board level changes.

The names who fit this bill are Mike Newell and Steve Cotterrill who have managed atthis level. Others include the untested Sammy Lee, Gary Mcallister and Paul Ince. Rob Kelly is also included amongst the frontrunners but is thought not to be interested in the post - I don't blame him really.

The new manager is likely to be appointed before 24 November and so Preston will have to act quickly to beat local rivals Burnley and Wigan to the new appointment.
