Controversy In Defeat

Preston's poor away form continued at Colchester as they slipped to a defeat against yet another bottom three side.

The first half was goalless but the second half was sparked into life by a moment of folly. Colchester played a ball up field when the front line in an offside position were coming backwards. No one picked up the oncoming midfield except St Ledger who was left chasing back. He was adjudged to have brought down the Colchester player but the foul seemingly outside the area was given as a penalty with St Ledger shown a straight red.

Vernon converted the penalty but ten men Preston came back with sub Mellor equalising in the last ten minutes. For the second away game in succession Preston fell to a late goal with Jackson blasting in a winner.

Preston's inconsistency has now landed them in a dogfight and with the Cup this weekend Preston could well and truly be in a mess by the next time they take the field for a league match.
