Cup Run Continues

It is true that changes were made on both sides for the midweek League Cup game at Elland Road. North End needed to freshen things up after two consecutive stale away performances resulting in five conceded and none scored.

The team put out by Alex Neil did put in a performance and this saw them through to the next round of the cup. Some will have impressed enough to retain a place for the weekend league fixture against Bolton.

Preston took an early lead when Moult was fouled in the box. Daniel Johnson was given another start and converted the penalty to give Preston an early lead.

Ledson was playing in the holding midfield role and had a rush of blood to the head. The ball was loose and both players were entitled to go for the ball but Ledson went in high. Despite winning the ball his follow through was high with studs showing and the referee had no option but to show a red card.

Going down to ten men did not deter Preston and they doubled their lead thanks to a superb solo effort from Barker who surely has to start against Bolton.

The left footed attacker ran from the edge of his own box beating three players before rifling in a shot from the edge of the Leeds box. It was an excellent run and finish.

The ten men held out in the second half maintaining the two goal lead which sees them progress to the Third Round.
