Defence Holds Firm

Grayson's reign at Deepdale has been built on a solid defence and with two main strikers out of action injured his attcking options have been limited at the start of the season.

The back four is now almost set in stone even at this early stage of the season. Further forward Hayhurst started on the left wing with Holmes pushed behind Davies as the lone frontman.

Rotherham were restricted to pot shots throughout the game despite their recent impressive home record at the New York Stadium. Rudd was rarely troubled throughout the match.

North End came closest when Bailey Wright headed against the bar but that apart opportunities were restricted with Holmes and Humphrey making the odd surge into the box.

Preston will have to improve going forward if they are going to break teams down this season but at the back they look like a solid outfit who are difficult to breakdown which will put them in good stead to pick up points this season.
