Dismal Away Form Continues

North End have failed to win away from home against any of the sides above them in the table with only a trip to Newcastle remaining this season. It has been a problem all season long and a major reason as to why Preston will finish securely in mid-table and not in the top six.

Preston may have had a long run with only a handful of defeats since September but the slow start to the season, too many draws and lack of points away at the top sides cannot be disguised if the club is serious about progression.

Huddersfield are pretty much assured of a play off spot and were on the front foot when McGeady changed the course of the game. It is unclear where Preston would have finished without him this season but the Irish international went on a jinking run before firing home from outside the box.

It is critical that Preston make all attempts to re-sign McGeady next season whether that is on a further season long loan or a premanent deal. A transfer from Everton will test the resolve of the board in terms of spending power.

The home side were gifted a way back into the game just before the break. Maxwell has largely played well this season but has had some gaffes as well.

A standard corner was floated into the box. The keeper came off his line flung himself at the ball finishing himself aout two yeards too short as it floated easily over him for Kachunga to head into the back of the net.

Huddersfield appeared to have sealed victory when a cross from the right was deflected by Johnson into the path of Payne who had a tap in but Preston managed to pull the scores level.

Hugill who had been quiet for the past few games managed to force home to level the scores. The game seemd to be heading for a draw before a controversial end.

There was an off the ball incident between Hugill and Kachunga. The linesman flagged and the referee pointed to the spot. Mooy had his penalty shot saved before Quaner scored from the rebound in the 96th minute.

Grayson may well lament the decision and thankfully the result will not change the course of Preston's season. When all is said and done Grayson must look at the mistake from Maxwell and identify how Preston can transfer their home form into victories away from home next term.
