Errors Cost Preston Dear

The run in towards the end of the season started in bad fashion for Preston who were poor defensively as well as missing some gilt edge chances at the other end of the pitch.

Sheffield Wednesday have had a poor season and the end scoreline flattered them but Preston failed to take their opportunities and were punished for laspes in concentration at the back.

Preston played well in the first half and were rarely troubled but missed opportinities costs them. Huntington was free in the box when he got on the end of a ball. He should have scored but in the end headed over the bar.

Just before the break Ben Davies was free in the box. He was given time and space but failed to score with the keeper making a save. The missed chances came back to haunt Preston.

Wednesday made a subustitute at the break and Preston failed to react. The visitors switched off as the home side raided down the right. Maguire who is by no means a defensive player tried to track back but in the end allowed his man a straight forward cross in the box.

The marking in the box was even poorer as Nuhui was stood without a marker in sight less than ten yeards from goal. He had the simple task of slotting past the helpless Rudd.

Within moments the game was almost put beyond Preston. Joao managed to free himself of Ben Davies as a cross came in. Joao had time and space but instead decided to head first time past Rudd.

North End piled forward in search of some reward. Maguire was guilty of taking too long over a chance in the six yard box. He could have headed into the net but waited for the ball to come down and allowed the defence to recover.

Later on Maguire again missed a close range opportunity with the keeper saving and the ball then hitting the post. It just wasn't his day and he was substituted with Moult coming on his place whilst Johnson replaced Gallagher.

The changes worked as Johnson crossed for Moult who tapped in from a yard out for his first goal for Preston. Preston searched for the equaliser but the game was slowed due to the gemsmanship of the Shffield Wednesday players.

Nuhui scored the goal of the game from the edge of the box in injury time. Rudd was unable to prevent what was a good finish to seal the game. Substitute Forestieri then scored from a free kick deep in injury time to add to Preston's misery.

Results elsewhere meant Preston did not lose ground on the top six but they are now running out of games with others having games in hand. North End really need to defeat Derby on Easter Monday to have any chance of staying int he hunt for a play off position.
