Darren Ferguson was clearly not happy with the way his midfield are performing after Tuesday's heavy defeat at home to Barnsley.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "[Midfield] is a problem area for us. There is no doubt about that.

"We've brought one in with Paul Coutts. We tried to get Martin Woods from Doncaster. It's an area we must improve," he added.

Ferguson said of Coutts: "He'll go and get the ball, he'll play. He's a good passer and has a good change of pace. He will add all of that to the team.

"We are playing too many square passes and not getting forward quick enough and he'll bring that to the team."
