Garner Penalty Seal Victory

It's not often this season that you can say Preston were comprehensive winners over Reading and should have scored more than the single penalty which gave them victory.

North End have now gone ten games conceding only three goals. One was a penalty, the other an own goal whislt the third was a spectacular fre kick from Mccormack. Preston have always been defensively solid but they now appear to be less afraid and more willing o attack.

The early part of the season was treated with caution and a not lose attitude but the displays in recent weeks show that Preston can compete with anyone in this division.

It was an unchanged side from the team that won away at Burnley. The goal came int he second half after Garner was bundled over from behind in the box. The striker converted the penalty for his third in four games.

There were other chances. Before the goal North End hit the post with a screaming shot. There was also a scramble in the 6 yard box where on three separate occasions the shot was blocked one way or another.

Reading didn't have that threat up front posed by Gray of Burnley or Mccormack at Fulham. They seemed flat and Pretson's defence held firm as the visitors ran out of ideas.

North End now move 8 points clear of the drop and with games against Birmingham, Leeds and Huddersfield, will be looking to move further up the table in the next few weeks.
