Grayson Picks Number Two Target

The transfer window has been frustrating for Preston and it is amazing that they let the goalkeeping situation drag out so long over the summer months with Jamie Jones playing the majority of the pre-season games.

Preston are not entirely blameless with Manchester United aparently agreeing in principle to allow keeper Sam Johnstone to return to Preston after his loan spell finished at the end of last season.

Initially it was thought this woul be a permanent deal then it turned into a potential season long loan. Preston were then fobbed off by the fact that United had to resolve the De Gea transfer situation which was clearly going to rattle on well upto transfer deadline day.

Preston waited for Johnstone to return from the USA where he played on United's pre-season tour and now it seems obvious that Van Gaal won't release Johnstone, as stipulated, until the De Gea situation is resolved. Why Preston had to wait so long is unknown.

Rumours were abound that Preston would resign Declan Rudd who has gone down the pecking order at Norwich but instead Grayson has signed Jordan Pickford who is an England under 20 international from Sunderland.

Pickford fits the mould fo the last two loan keepers - Johnstone and Rudd but it seems hardly fair that he has been chucked into the starting eleven at the last minute just bfoe the season started.

The keeping situation should have been resolved weeks ago when I am sure Pickford would have been available and could have formed a unit with the Preston back four.
