Brown has said that left back is a priority position with only loanee Ricardo Garnder playing in that positon as a natural left sided defender under Brown's stewardship.
Hill spent last season on loan at QPR before signing a short term contract at Barnsley which has now expired. He still lives in the Preston area and approached Phil Brown over a possible return. He is on a free transfer so the only stumbling block would be his wages.
