The club reported that Hugill put in a transfer request after Reading and Wolves were the latest to show an interest in the player. Preston have turned around and refused his request.
It is understood that Reading made a bid in the region of £8 million but have now turned their attention elsewhere. Wolves have also made a bid which has not been accepted by the club.
It is unclear where this leaves the club and player with a matter of days to go before the end of the window although Preston are insisting that Hugill will not be sold at any price.
