North End will resume rivalries with Blackpool in the league for the first time in a number of years and the the Seasiders made a return to the Championship through the play offs.
The clubs last met in the League Cup when Simon Grayson was manager but you have to go back even further for a league game between the two sides. It will add another local game in addition to the Blackburn match.
Brentford were also promoted via the play offs and whilst many will wish them well it will equally be remembered as a fond away day for many travelling North End fans.
The league will be as difficult as ever next season. Fulham and West Brom come down as yoyo clubs in recent times. Sheffield United will be looking to reignite after a poor season in the top flight whilst Bournemouth will be looking to build on their first season back in the Championship.
Nobody said it would be easy for Prestom and it certainly will be a test for North End to move out of the midtable places where they have finished over the past few seasons.
