The 33-year-old centre-back has signed a one year extension on his present contract which was due to expire in the summer.

"I'm delighted to extend my time here," he told the clubs official website.

"I've had four very enjoyable seasons. Things are going well and hopefully we can get the club in the Premier League in the time I have left here."

"That was definitely the reason I came here and I believe the club has the potential to get there and that was the reason why I joined.

"My views haven't changed and hopefully the way things are going now with the new manager and the new players he is bringing in, then we have an even better chance.

"The new manager has settled in brilliantly and brought in a lot of ideas to the club, on and off the pitch.

"He has also made the squad very competitive and if we can keep everybody fit we have a great chance."
