Mawene Out For The Season

Mawene who featured heavily in Preston's successful back four last season collided with colleague Brian Stock in Saturday's pre-season match against Manchester United.

The Frenchman went to see a specialist and he was diagnosed has having damaged his cruciate and medial ligaments in his knee. He is set to have a brace fitted on his knee and then a further operation will follow in around a month. Mawene will miss the entire season.

This means that Preston will be without three of the back four who only shipped in thirty league goals last season. The central defence has completely changed and has a youthful look about it with Chilvers, St Ledger and Wilson all fighting for one spot. It comes as a devestating blow to boss Simpson who has immediately gone on the lookout for an experienced defender to help his side out at the back. Mawene had featured heavily throughout pre-season and was given the armband when Alexander was off the field but his presence will be sorely missed.
