On-form Midfielder Paul McKenna looks doubtful to start the opening game on Saturday against West Ham, after sustaining an ankle injury in training this week.
Preston Boss Brown said: " He took a knock to his ankle and it’s swollen up.
"He’s had an x-ray on it and although it hasn’t broken it is very sore and it will be touch and go whether he’ll ready for Saturday."
