Mears signs for Hammers

Tyrone Mears today passed his medical and put pen to paper on a 4 year deal at Upton Park. The fee is believed to be £1m with additional payments in clauses dependant on whether the right back plays for England.

Mears becomes the second departure from Deepdale after Claude Davis opted for a move to Sheffield United in a deal which could rise to £3m. The summer of discontent continues for Preston North End who heard yesterday that up to four members of the backroom staff wanted a move away from Deepdale. Youth development manager Glyn Salmon, goalkeeping coach Pete Williams, Physio Andrew Balderston and coach Julian Darby all made it clear yesterday. It is rumoured that the four will join up with Billy Davies at Derby County.
