Elliott has been in talks with the Edinburgh side with wages being the main sticking point. Hearts have a salary structure in place where the top salary is £6000 meaning Elliott will have to take a salary drop.
Nicholson was speaking in the Scotsman newspaper stating that Elliott would be a superb signing for the Scottish Premier League outfit who are desperate for some much needed firepower.
