Nicholson suffered a broken leg prior to Darren Ferguson's appointment at the back end of last season. The midfielder came back towards the end of the season but suffered a set back to his leg.
He has been out of action since but is looking to return to action for the reserves against Tranmere at the end of October. Nicholson is not being rushed into a return with Ferguson having plenty of choice in midfield this season.
