North End made a statement that due to budget requirements they would not be signing Kevin Davies on a new deal. It seemed apparent that Davies was offered a player coach role at the end of last season. The frontman had been keeping fit on his own.
It is unclear what has happened but North End have effectively said that the striker's salary does not fit within their budget for financial fair play. It could be that Davies rejected the player coach role where his salary would have been covered ont he coaching side of things. It appears that Davies does want to continue playing and therefoe Preston woul dhave bene restricted on offering a player salary to him.
