North End Fall At The Last

A huge following travelled for the away game to Crewe with Preston guaranteed third spot int he table with a win. Preston never do things the easy way and a battling Crewe side who managed to avoid relegation by winning were the better side ont he day.

It was a disappointing performance by Preston which was acknowledged by Grayson after the game. It is worrying for fans after recent poor away performances specifically at Brentford where the keeper was troubled, defeat at Swindon and a draw at Bristol City.

Preston went down to a simple goal in the first half and the writing was on the wall from that point. Pogba was free in the box to head home unmarked and it was a sign of things to come.

The visitors failed to muster any decent attacks in the first half with Beavon and Garner having trouble holding up the ball and bringing others into play.

Pogba made it two int he second half when Wright made it easy for him to bypass the defender as he went to ground. It was a neat finish and Preston were never realistically coming back.

It was an injury time goal from Welsh from the edge of the box which halved the defecit but Preston never looked like getting the better of their hosts at any point.

Both Orient and Rotherham won meaning that Preston slipped to fifth for their final league position. They play Rotherham at home on Saturday fo the first leg of the play offs at 5.15pm before going to South Yorkshire on 15 May for a 7.45pm kick off.
