Off And Running

The old cliche of a game of two halves was evident today as Preston dominated the first 45 minutes with Wednesday coming back strong in the second period.

Preston started attackingly with Gallagher on the left with Agyemang and Carroll up front. Nicholls had the first chance being put through but was denied by a good save from Grant.

Gallagher then shot across goal before Carter had a rasping effort saved. The deadlock was then broken as Grant saved again but Gallagher was on hand to put into the gaping net from close range. Wednesday were not happy as the move all started when they believed one of their players had been fouled and that player was still on the ground at the other end when Preston scored. Preston had chances to go further ahead but did not take them.

Wednesday came out strong in the second half hitting the post within minutes of the restart. The visitors pressed and Preston allowed them space which was exploited. Lonergan saved Preston on a number of occassions whilst the referee turned down several penalty appeals. Preston hung on for victory and had chances on the break with Carroll being denied by an excellent save from Grant.

Preston now go to Scunthorpe on Tuesday before Cardiff next Saturday.
