Out Of Shape Preston Force Derby Draw

Preston manager Alan Irvine changed the shape of the team and personnel to combat Blackpool's organised side. Neil Mellor played wide left although at times he appeared to be playing as a joint left back with Davidson.

Wallace played on his unfavoured right wing whilst Sedgewick played in central midfield with Tonge and Chaplow. All of these changes made Preston look uneasy and contributed to a calamatous first half including a goal for the home side after less than half a minute.

Preston failed to clear when Clarke curled a left foot shot past the outstretched Lonergan. Time and again Preston looked uneasy with Mellor out of his depth having to defend on the left. The Whites failed to press forward and rush the home side who created numerous chances. Blackpool hit the bar and the post in the first half.

Having said all that there were opportunities where Preston carved open the Blackpool defence with Chaplow and Tonge having chances. The visitors did equalise from a free kick when Wallace curled past the wall into the net.

The game was level at half time but both sides were at a loss as to why with both teams creating numerous chances. The second half saw Preston play slightly better creating chances but failing to take them with Mellor going closest. Some woeful finishing by Blackpool meant Preston were able to get a draw out of this latest derby game.
