Point Puts Preston Three Clear

Preston named an unchanged side but there was no way that they would be able to pass the ball as they have been used to on the Deepdale surface as the worn pitch at Oakwell was not in ideal shape although I suspect it is far better then Bradford's surface where Preston head on Easter Monday.

North End dominated the early exchanges and should have been ahead when a cross came in for Garner. Instead of simply heading the ball into the back of the net he decided to chest down allowing the keeper an opportunity to come out and grab the ball.

Garner did eventually get his goal from close range before the break which gave the travelling support of just under 3,000 something to shout about. The visitors could not double their lead and that always meant Barnsley were in the game.

After the break the home side who have been in a decent run of form took some control back and Johnstone had to be called into action to prevent a goal.

Barnsley finally scored when Preston lost the ball in midfield creating a two on one overlap down the right against Laird. The ball was looped in and Ibehre headed home from between two defenders.

Preston then came back into the game strongly but couldn't force a winner in the final ten minutes despite creating all of the pressure towards the end of the game.

The point cuts the gap on Bristol City to ten points with a game in hand. More improtantly, Preston move three points above Swindon. North End travel to Fleetwood whilst Swindon have to wait until Easter to play again when they will face Bristol City and MK Dons in what will be a decisive period int he promotion race.
