McLean was brought in by Brown at the start of last season and looked a good prospect starting out of position at right back before slotting into the centre of defence.
The defender played 18 times for Preston but for some reason unknown to the public he never featured in the matchday squads when Graham Westley came to the club.
He was placed on the transfer list with a number of other unwanted players but instead of seeing out his contract he has agreed to cut short his time at Preston in an attempt to find a new club.
