Preston faced up to old boy Simon Davey and his Barnsley side who were coming off a home defeat at the weekend to Coventry. Preston capitalised on this with new signing Parry scoring his first goal for the club early on.

Just after the half hour mark Neil Mellor doubled Preston's lead with a second half goal from Parkin, his second of the season, securing the thre epoints for the Whites.

Preston now have five points from their first three games and face Peterborough at home on Saturday who went down this evening at home to West Brom.
