It was Preston's fourth game of the pre-season abd ba improvment on their thrashing by Fulham a week earlier. North End won the game by 3-1 albeit the result is irrelevant.
Doyle scored in the first half after he played up front with new boy Makienok. Garner added a second after the break with a header before the home team pulled one back.
Garner then added a third from the penalty spot. The only disappointment of the evening was an injury to Callum Woods which could see him out for some time as there is suspected ligament damage to the knee.
Grayson had been linked with a return for Vermijl who was on loan last season. For the short term he may use other squad players but if the injury keeps Woods out for a while then it is expected that Preston will look into the transfer market.
