Preston Let Points Slip

Alex Neil changed his line up. Pearson returned after a spell on the sidelines to give Preston some much needed bite and stability in midfield. Woods was also given his second start as Fisher served a suspension.

Fulham was always going to be a difficult game and the game could have ended up much differently than it did. The home team had a chance in the first half when through a multitude of defenders and keeper, Preston managed to block several consecutive attempts on their goal.

It was North End who took the lead and they did look comfortable. Maguire crossed from the left hand side and Hugill got his foot to the ball first to divert the ball past the keeper.

The lead was soon doubled when Maguire deflected in a Barkhuizen and Preston went into the break on top. The home side were always going to come out stronger in the second half although Preston did waste several opportunities to extend the lead.

Fulham came close in the second period with Maxwell forced into action. They threw men forward but after an hour or so it seemed that the home side had run out of ideas.

Preston looked tired. Maguire had gone off injured whilst Pearson was always going to come off after such a lengthy lay off. The visitors deepended and sat back unlike the first half when they pressed high.

The home side sensed an opportunity and a through ball saw a tangle in the box. On another day the referee may have waved away the penalty shouts but he pointed to the spot. Noprwood converted and for the last 15 minutes Preston were under pressure.

It seemed that Preston had ridden out that pressure. Johnson kept going down with cramp and at times North End were suffering but Fulham lacked cohesion to breakthough.

The board showed 5 minutes of injury time. This was extended further with an injury to Maxwell. There was one last punt into the box which Maxwell came to collect. He dropped the ball and it landed at the feet of Odoi who tapped into an empty net.

It was virtually the last kick of the game which meant a share of the points although Preston still sit in the play off positions after playing one of their more difficult games of the season.
