Preston Rescue A Point

Preston started the match brightly with a left footed Parry starting on the right with Sedgewick on the bench. Schumi started in midfield always wanting the ball even though his radar was sometimes somewhat off the mark.

Preston had a lot of the ball in the first forty five. From two corners Parkin and Mawene missed easy opportunities to put North End in the lead with another chance scrambled off the line.

Bristol City rarely threatened in the first half but should have capitilised when Preston had a lapse at the back with the chance being scaramble away thanks to Lonergan.

The visitors came out the stronger in the second period with Mawene and St Ledger looking like they had never played together. A corner was cleared and Mellor looked to set up a counter. Unfortunately, he played the ball the wrong way resulting in Maynard being pulled down by Mawene. Hartley converted the penalty.

Preston were then undone for pace again at the back with Clarkson sliding a finish through the legs of Lonergan. It should have been three when St Ledger mis-timed a backpass only for the finish to curl wide.

Preston then made changes with Nicholson coming on in place of Schumi and Brown for Mellor. Preston had chances with Mawene heading over after being free at a corner.

Preston then found the breakthrough when Parkin hit a sweet left footed shot from the edge of the box in the lats ten minutes. Preston then piled on the pressure pouring everybody up front. Long balls were to no avail and the referee was giving nothing until the fourth and last minute of stoppage time when a penalty was awarded for the home side. Captain Davidson converted to give North End a point.

Preston will be relieved that they managed to come back from two down in a game where they should have been ahead by half time. They will be glad that the stamina of last season is still there and will move on in the hope of trying to make things tighter at the back.
