The Preston born player who only spent a brief time at North End but had spells at Blackpool, Burnley and QPR has been seriously injured as a result of an accident ont he A64 with a lorry yesterday.
Little is known about the accident details but reports late yesterday evening suggested that Carlisle had been taken to hospital in Leeds where he had suffered serious injuries.
The club along with many others put out a statement confirming their thoughts and prayers were with the former player and family.
