Same Old Story For Preston

after Saturday's dismal defeat Grayson reverted to the 4-5-1 formation with a midfield of Browne, Brownhill and Kilkenny. Garner started up front with Gallagher and Hayhurst in support. The back five worryingly remained the same.

Preston flew out of the blocks thanks to a great cross headed home by Brown who has shown his worth going forward. Garner then added a second shortly after when he capitilised on a mistake from the Chesterfield keeper. Brownhill made it three before the half hour.

Chesterfield had shown glimpses and eventually started to get a foothold int he game playing some nice passing football. Before the break Doyle pulled one back to set the nerves going.

Preston appear to have lost the ability to defend and this stems back to the second half of last season. When Grayson arrived he steadied the ship and made North End hard to beat albeit lacking in flair. Since bolstering the attacking options the defence has suffered with Preston leaking goals at an alarming rate.

King was on as a substitute and lost the ball in midfield allowing Chestrefield to break down the left. Woods was beaten for pace, didn't even get a tackle in and allowed a cross into the box. Doyle simply tapped the ball in for his second.

Preston should have finished the game before the final whistle. Reid and Chambers came on and both looked effective out wide. Reid whipped in a peach of a cross but the bullet header was tipped onto the bar by the keeper.

Moments later in injury time the visitors corssed only for Garner to inexplicably handle inside the box. The penalty was converted by Doyle and the lowest crowd at Deepdale for some time showed their frustration at the final whistle.
