Seaside Sun Shines On Derby Day Delight

Preston took all three points from Bloomfield Road for the first time in over a decade as they laid to rest the ghost of Tony Ellis who scored a hat-trick the last time Preston won away at Blackpool.

The seasiders started the better forcing Lonergan into a save which he fumbled before making an excellent save at the second attempt.

Preston had the ball in the net thanks to Mellor but it was ruled out for a Sedgewick handball. Moments later a good move down the right saw Hammil through on goal who blasted a rocket past Lonergan.

Preston looked shakey with Burgess winning eveything in the air and Preston being beaten in most 50/50 balls. Blackpool failed to create enough chances to press home their advantage only going close on a couple of occassions.

The Whites cam out the stronger in the second half and put Blackpool to the sword as the Blackpool right flank appeared to disintegrate. The first goal came from a perfect Wallace cross which found Chris Brown in acres of space inside the six yard box. Brown nodded home comfortably to add to his goal against Norwich last week.

Preston were then on top and converted the pressure into a second goal. Wallace again instrumental with a ball in that Mellor rose highest for at the back post to power Preston in front.

The game was then killed off as Preston broke. Mellor was fouled but managed to continue putting a cross into the box. Wallace controlled and with both Chaplow and Brown in the box he had targets to aim at. The ball was slotted across to Brown who tapped home into an open goal from inside the six yard area.

The win, Preston's first on the road since the opening day of the season moves them into 13 th with two home games over the next two Saturday's giving them a chance to move into the top half.
