Simpson Signs New Deal

After only six months in the job, the Preston board were impressed with new boss Simpson who was contracted until 2009. They decided to exercise a clause in his contract to add a further two years on top which means all in all his contract ends in 2011.

That of course means nothing should either Preston go on a bad run and the board decide to sack the manager or on the opposite end of the scale success means the vultures of the Premiership come to pick up another talented manager from Deepdale.

Simpson signed the deal in negotiations last week and it is believed that he believes that if he is given £2 million to spend during the transfer window he can guarantee Premiership football at Deepdale next season. The question is if he will be given money from the reported transfer of David Nugent to fund further transfers.

Simpson is already looking to replace Nugent with Crewe's Luke Varney for a figure estimated at around £750,000. The youngster is a hot shot in League One after scoring in the Cup against Manchester United and is a highly rated youngster.
