Slow Start Costs Preston

The Championship is a tough dvision but Preston have adapted well but they were dealt a harsh lesson by Brentford on Saturday in a game where Preston might have picked up some points on another day.

Grayson's game plan is often to take the lead and hold on to the same. He rarely engineer's a victory from a losing position. In League One there were a couple of occasions when Pretson had an off day with a slow start but due to their quality could still mount a comeback.

Fleetwood was the game where Preston powered through after being two behind but Brenford proved on Saturday that you simply cannot allow teams in the Championship any kind of lead.

Preston made one change with Reach returning after injury but the team started sluggishly. Brentford came on the front foot passing the ball around without a challenge.

The scoring was opened due to a free kick. Johnstone lined up the wall at the near post but the ball was curled to the far post over a number of heads. Johnstone was unable to get there and Brentfor took the lead.

North End then equalised shortly afterwards on a rare forward attack. Reach finished off the move but Preston were more than lucky to be level given the lack of possession they had.

The visitors were back in front before half time thanks to an uncharacteristic mistake from Cunningham. He delayed and made a poor attempt at a clearance allowing Judge to nip in and score beyond Johnstone.

Preston coul have been down to then men but Garner was only given a yellow card for his antics when he appeared to elbow a Brentford defender. It has to be said that the visitors did appear to hit the floor rather easily and used time management to perfection throughout the match.

The Whites attacked more in the second period especially when Robinson came on as a substitute giving extra pace. North End had a twenty minute spell when on another day they could have scored some goals.

A heard hit the bar, Gallgher had a headr wide and there was a shot which forced an unbelieveable reflex save from the Brentford keeper who somehow managed to tip the ball onto the bar.

As Preston went forward Brentford killed off the game with Swift having a shot deflected. A diving Johnstone was unable to save the ball which flew past him.

Prestonnow have a break with no fixture this weekend before travelling to Derby next Tuesday.
