The youngster is currently at Hartlepool in non-league football and is described as being in the mould of Andy Carroll. This could be seen as a sign that Preston are now willing to part with Jordan Hugill given the recent influx of strikers into the club.
Several clubs including Celtic, Liverpool and Everton were tracking the youngster but it is reported that Preston are the most likely to sign Simpson.
